South African National Parks (SANParks) Biodiversity Social projects (BSP) programme has three main objectives - namely, poverty relief, community upliftment and nature-conservation on SANParks protected areas, buffer zones and controlled areas.  BSP aims to empower people through nature conservation initiatives and is funded by the Environmental programmes of the Department of Environmental Affairs.

The National Department of Environmental Affairs is the Nodal point for the Man and Biosphere Programme in South Africa. It also acts as the secretariat for the National Man and Biosphere Committee. As such, the MaB Programme is one of the Departments Programmes: Please read more at:

The Department of Environmental Affairs is also key in enabling and oversight of all of the K2C BR Programmes, i.e. Working for Eco Systems, Environmental Monitoring and the Protected Area Effectiveness Programmes.
