SANParks Buffer Zone Coordinator

Wehncke has a strong hsitory with enviornmentally focused NPO’s – having worked for AWARD (Association for Water and Rural Deveopment) prior to his appointment with K2C.   His focus at AWARD was on improviment the awareness of biodversity and insuring its incorporation ito local municpal land use planning processes.   Backing him up , he has a Deveopment and Envrionmental undergraduate degree and has finiahed a Post Graduate Dimploma in Enviornmental Management.  He is currently in th process of completing his Masters which is focussing on taking an ecosystems approach to development planning at local Municipal level.


Stewardship Coordinator

Nicholas Theron has a B-Tech in Game Ranch Management and a Masters in Genetics, which he was awarded with honours. The focus of Nicholas’ research was on aspects of the ecology, conservation and genetics of Southern Ground Hornbill, during his employment with Mabula Ground Hornbill Project.  Thereafter, he took up a position with BirdLife South Africa, where he held various positions running different projects.   Nicholas was then employed by K2C as the Stewardship Coordinator in Octo 2016 where his primary task will be to secure critical watersheds along the Drakensberg Escarpment.



Romy has an honours degree in Environment, Ecology & Conservation and a masters degree in Geography and Environmental Studies, where she conducted her research on the Makuleke Wetlands (Ramsar site) in the Pafuri region of the Kruger National Park. She has worked for years in the environmental consulting industry conducting Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), Basic Assessments and Environmental Management Plans (EMPs), largely within the mining industry, but also for tourism and agricultural developments. In 2017, she joined BirdLife South Africa to assist the Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBA) and Policy and Advocacy Programmes. Through her work with BirdLife South Africa she became familiar with the biodiversity stewardship process and the National Environmental Management: Protected Areas Act (57 of 2003). She is highly proficient in GIS, with many years’ experience in ArcView, and enjoys incorporating the power of GIS in any work she does.


Biosphere Coordinator/ Bioregional Programme Integrator

Marie-Tinka obtained a Master’s Degree at the University of Witwatersrand. She has 20 years of experience in capacity building and 15 years working experience in the UNESCO MaB programme.


SANParks Biodiversity  Special Programmes NRM Cluster Manager

Frans completed his Batchelor’s Degree at the Tswane University of Technology and he has 10 years working experience in the implementation of Natural Resource Management Programmes.

Project Manager: WWF SANParks K2C Water Stewardship Project

Mbali completed her BSc (Hons) with distinction in 2016. Besides Managing all the Working for Ecosystems Programmes in the K2C, she is also busy with her Master’s Degree Studies through University of Kwa Zulu Natal. She has been awarded a Green Matter-Mapula Scholarship for her research on the Socio-Economic value of Vultures.


Project Manager: Environmental Monitor Programme

Dimakatso is a SANParks BSP Project Manager for the Environmental Monitor Programme. She grew up in the Bushbuckridge area, where as a High School Learner, she attended a Timbavati Bush School learning opportunity. This inspir3ed her to study conservation. She obtained her Diploma in Conservation from the Pretoria University of Technology. She started her career as an environmental monitor and her excellent performance enabled her appointment in this position


Project Manager: Environmental Monitor Programme

Vusi is from the Acornhoek Area and has completed his National Diploma in conservation at the Tswane University of Technology. He has seven years’ experience in Conservation.


Stewardship Facilitator

Shoki is an Assistant Stewardship Officer in the GEF programme. She grew up in the Maruleng District’s Enable Village. She obtained her BA (Hons) from the University of Johannesburg. She started her formal career as an Environmental Monitor and became a Environmental Programme Manager before she took the position of the Assistant Stewardship Manager in 2018.
