This position requires one (1) motivated and competent team contractor to coordinate a team to undertake Alien Invasive Plant clearing within the Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve at the Matibidi, Moremela and Graskop Areas.

Under the guidance of the Project Manager, to lead a small group of team members in the field removing alien invasive plants (mostly pine, eucalyptus and wattle trees) and coordinate to ensure that targets and deadlines are met. Work will be undertaken in remote areas, where camping and clearing along cliff faces may be required (training will be provided in future).
Role responsibilities
- Ensuring a safe workplace environment.
- Overseeing the quality of team performance and resolving conflicts within the working environment.
- Informing the Project Manager about any issues within the team, any equipment malfunctions, and any other concerns.
- Assisting in completing first aid and health and safety forms.
- Accurately completing daily timesheets and production sheets.
- Communicating with the other members of the management team.
- Assisting the management team with project-related tasks.
- Safekeeping of inventory, equipment and materials.
- Willing to work in the sun, undertake hard physical labour, access areas with challenging road conditions, keep track of clearing using the required K2C app, and work with chainsaws and other equipment (pangas, pruning saws, axes, tree-poppers etc.).
- Willing to camp and spend extended periods of time in field, when required
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be able to speak, write and read in English.
- Fit and must be able and willing to walk and travel between work sites in the field. Fitness tests will be undertaken.
- Previous experience in a similar role (for example: the working for water project, timber industry, tree felling).
- Needs to be self-motivated and able to motivate and manage team members.
- Needs to be good at timekeeping.
- Matric certificate.
- Women are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Only people with no criminal record may apply.
- Must have access to a roadworthy vehicle that has high clearance and can carry teams of up to 12 members into the field and that complies with K2C standard’s and protocols.
- Professional Driving Permit (PrDP).
- Background on Mapping or GIS will be an added advantage.
- A valid PCO certificate will be an added advantage.
- Must be willing to camp in remote areas of the mountains.
